The President of Kesmonds International University (KIU) delivered a keynote presentation during the Academic Session of Rectors, Vice-Chancellors and University Presidents held as part of the Second Russia–Africa Raw Materials Dialogue at Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The high-level international gathering, convened from 12 to 16 October 2026, brought together more than 500 participants, including delegates from over 40 African countries, to strengthen cooperation between Russia and Africa in mineral resource development, mining engineering, scientific research and higher education.
Supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the UNESCO International Competence Centre for Mining Engineering Education, the dialogue provided a strategic platform for academic leaders, policymakers and industry stakeholders to explore opportunities for collaboration and sustainable development.
Advancing International Academic Cooperation
The President’s keynote presentation formed part of discussions focused on the role of universities in advancing international cooperation, strengthening research partnerships and developing the skilled professionals required to support economic transformation across Africa and beyond.
Universities remain central to preparing future leaders, engineers, researchers and innovators.
