An arrangement in which students registered at an international higher education institution undertakes a period of study at Kesmonds International University. The study program for each student is agreed by both institutions and students are required to pay fees to Kesmonds International University.

Joint Supervision/Cotutelle

This is an arrangement for an individual PhD student or small single cohort. The student is supervised by a Supervisor at Kesmonds International University and by a Supervisor at a partner institution. The student may or may not spend time at the partner institution. Generally, the University will only enter into joint supervision arrangements when it can be shown that relevant expertise does not exist at Kesmonds International University (Compare with Split-Site PhD.). Doctoral degrees with co-supervision occurs whereby the University of Kesmonds International University  awards the degree, but part of a student’s period of study is spent at a partner institution, with a co-supervisor appointed from the partner institution and approved by Kesmonds International University .

Transnational Education

This refers to a number of different collaborative arrangements but most often refers to the establishment of an overseas campus to deliver a University's programs and make awards. The establishment of an overseas campus can include a number of arrangements such as the use of Delivery Partners and in-country teaching and might also include joint delivery or award with a partner degree-awarding institution.

Delivery Partner Provision Requires

The establishment of an overseas campus will be managed through a Project Board. The Project Board will oversee the complex planning and negotiations involved, ensure adequate due diligence is undertaken and that the relevant University approval that is required at various stages takes place, including but not limited to the approval of the Quality Assurance Committee, Governing Council, University Senate.

Distance Program

This involves the delivery of a Kesmonds International University program to cohorts of students using the premises and/or facilities of another organization. Kesmonds International University retains control of the delivery and the teaching, which is usually delivered on-line from Kesmonds International University, and academic support. The partner institution may provide some administrative support but will not provide supervision, teaching, academic support or student services, which will be provided by Kesmonds International University. The host institution is responsible for providing facilities such as study space and IT facilities and students have access to Kesmonds International University library and support facilities. A single award is made by Kesmonds International University. 

Dual Degree

This is an arrangement that is similar to a Double Degree but for which the overall study period is longer and volume of learning greater than for either of the awards individually, but typically shorter than if each of the programs of study had been taken consecutively. All partners must have degree-awarding powers and normally the regulations of both (all) partners apply so students must meet the award requirements of both (all) partners. Students are normally required to spend time at studying at both partners and it is expected that Kesmonds International University will deliver at least 50% of a program for which students achieve a dual degree. Each of the partners issues a certificate and the UK certificate must be explicit in naming the partners and the collaborative nature of the award. (Compare with Double Degree and Joint Degree.)

Franchised Provision

This is the process by which the Kesmonds International University authorizes a partner organization, a 'Delivery Partner', to deliver on behalf of Kesmonds International University one or more programs of study developed by Kesmonds International University  and leading to University of Kesmonds International University  awards. Normally, the partner organization will deliver the learning and assessment, student support and provide facilities. Variants include delivery being shared between the University and the partner institution, with the University having responsibility for program delivery, perhaps with 'flying faculty' and delegating the provision of student support and learning resources to the partner organization. In all variants of Franchised Provision, Kesmonds International University’s academic regulations, policies and procedures apply. Students on franchised programs are full students of Kesmonds International University, as well as of the partner. The award is made by Kesmonds International University and Kesmonds International University remains responsible for the quality of the award and of the student experience.

Validated Provision

This is an arrangement in which a program (or part of a program) developed and delivered by another organization is validated by Kesmonds International University to lead to a Kesmonds International University award. Kesmonds International University will evaluate the program and the partner's delivery of the program (teaching, support and facilities) to ensure that it is of an equivalent standard and quality as its own. Validations may include the provision of all or just some of the teaching services, student support and facilities by the partner. Kesmonds International University’s academic regulations, policies and procedures apply to validated programs. Students on validated programs are full students of Kesmonds International University, as well as of the partner. The award is made by Kesmonds International University and Kesmonds International University remains responsible for the quality of the award and of the student experience.

Research Partnerships

Kesmonds International University strategic research partnerships bring together complementary strengths and deepen the impact of cross-disciplinary research. International research partnerships may involve collaboration with an individual or team of researchers overseas, with a view to, for example, providing access to particular techniques, samples or equipment, developing critical mass and competitive advantage, driving international collaboration on papers, accessing new sources of funding, promoting the work of the center internationally, or enabling impact through access to particular policy makers, international organizations or industry representatives in the region. Research partnerships may include mobility programs to provide international opportunities for faculty and doctoral students.

Mobility (staff)

Staff mobility provides an opportunity for staff to spend a short period in another institution (normally overseas) and share expertise with contemporaries in teaching, research or administration. Staff mobility can help to strengthen strategic relationships and have an important role in capacity building with partner institutions, as well as providing development opportunities for the individuals concerned.

Mobility (students)

Where students on specified Kesmonds International University awards can spend time at a partner institution registered as a visiting or exchange student. This may include the opportunity to accrue credits at international (both EU and non-EU) partner institutions with independent degree-awarding powers, often exchanged with students from the partner institution who accrue credits at Kesmonds International University.
